In Israel, Romney declares Jerusalem to be capital

JERUSALEM (AP) ? Standing on Israeli soil, U.S. presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Sunday declared Jerusalem to be the capital of the Jewish state and said the United States has "a solemn duty and a moral imperative" to block Iran from achieving nuclear weapons capability.

"Make no mistake, the ayatollahs in Iran are testing our moral defenses. They want to know who will object and who will look the other way," he said. "We will not look away nor will our country ever look away from our passion and commitment to Israel."

The presidential election hovered over the speech. The Old City formed a made-for-television backdrop behind Romney, while some of his campaign donors listened in the audience.

Romney's declaration that Jerusalem is Israel's capital was matter-of-fact and in keeping with claims made by Israeli governments for decades, even though the United States, like other nations, maintains its embassy in Tel Aviv.

He did not say if he would order the embassy moved if he wins the White House, but strongly suggested so in a CNN interview.

"My understanding is the policy of our nation has been a desire to move our embassy ultimately to the capital (Jerusalem)," he said, adding, "I would only want to do so and to select the timing in accordance with the government of Israel."

His remarks on the subject during his speech drew a standing ovation from his audience, which included Sheldon Adelson, the American businessman who has said he will donate millions to help elect Romney to the White House.

Romney's embrace of Israel was on display earlier in the day when he met with Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu and other leaders. He also visited the Western Wall, Judaism's holiest site, where he was mobbed by worshippers. In addition, Romney met with Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.

In his remarks, Romney steered clear of overt criticism of President Barack Obama, even though he said the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran "has only become worse" in the past five years.

In an unspoken rebuttal to Obama and other critics, Romney said, "It is sometimes said that those who are the most committed to stopping the Iranian regime from security nuclear weapons are reckless and provocative and inviting war.

"The opposite is true. We are the true peacemakers," he said.

The former Massachusetts governor also stepped back from a comment a senior aide made a short while before the speech.

"We recognize Israel's right to defend itself," he told the audience. Earlier, the aide, Dan Senor, previewed the speech for reporters, saying that "if Israel has to take action on its own, in order to stop Iran from developing the capability, the governor would respect that decision."

Israel is the second of three stops on an international trip for Romney in the weeks before he claims the Republican nomination at his party's national convention in Tampa, Fla.

He flew to the Middle East from Britain, where he caused a stir by questioning whether officials there were fully prepared for the Olympic Games. A stop in Poland will complete his trip.

Four years ago, then-U.S. Sen. Barack Obama also visited Israel as a candidate, part of a five-nation trip meant to establish his own foreign policy credentials.

In his speech, Romney said Syrian President Bashar Assad "desperately clings to power" in Damascus in the face of an attempted overthrow, but he did not call for his removal.

He noted that Egypt is now headed by an "Islamist president, chosen in a Democratic election. ... The international community must use its considerable influence to insure that the new government honors the peace agreement with Israel that was signed by the government of Anwar Sadat" more than three decades ago, he said.

A goal of Romney's overseas trip is to demonstrate his confidence on the world stage, but his stop in Israel also was designed to appeal to evangelical voters at home and to cut into Obama's support among Jewish voters and donors. A Gallup survey of Jewish voters released Friday showed Obama with a 68-25 edge over Romney.

Romney and other Republicans have said Obama is insufficiently supportive of Israel, noting statements the president has made about settlements and his handling of evident Iranian attempt to develop nuclear weapons.

Tehran is closer to developing nuclear weapons capability than before, Romney said. "Preventing that outcome must be our highest national security priority."

In a March speech before a pro-Israel lobby in Washington, Obama warned of "loose talk of war" that serves only to drive up oil prices. "Now is not the time to bluster," he said then. "Now is the time to let our increased pressure sink in and sustain the broad international coalition we have built."

It was unlikely that the day's events would settle the issue.

Obama's former press secretary, Robert Gibbs, told ABC's "This Week" that the administration has delayed Iran's nuclear program. The president has imposed U.S. penalties against Iran and worked to tougher strictures applied by other nations. There have been numerous published reports of a coordinated U.S.-Israeli cyberattack that caused damage to Iranian equipment vital to creating weapons-grade nuclear material.

Even so, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said before the speech that "all the sanctions and diplomacy so far have not set back the Iranian program by one iota."

Whatever the reality, the administration has taken steps in recent days to reassure Israel of its support.

Most notably, Obama approved an increase in assistance to strengthen a missile defense system that is designed to protect Israel from rocket attacks launched from the Gaza.

Senor's comments caused a stir in the hours leading to Romney's speech, a reminder of the controversy that Romney had created a few days earlier in London.

He later clarified his comments in a written statement, saying that the candidate "believes we should employ any and all measures to dissuade the Iranian regime from its nuclear course and it is his fervent hope that diplomatic and economic measures will do so. In the final analysis, of course, no option should be excluded."

Pentagon officials have spoken publicly about the difficulty of such a strike and American officials have expressed concern about the destabilizing effect such military action could have in the region, even if carried out successfully.

(AP) ? The White House predicts this year's federal budget deficit will end up at $1.2 trillion, marking the fourth consecutive year of trillion dollar-plus deficits during President Barack Obama's administration.

The bleak figures, while expected, are sure to add fuel to the already heated presidential campaign, in which Obama's handling of the economy and the budget is a main topic. Friday's release came as the government announced that U.S. economic growth slowed to an annual rate of just 1.5 percent in the second quarter of this year, as consumers cut back sharply on spending.

The White House budget office also predicts for this year that the economy will grow at a modest 2.6 percent annual rate and that the jobless rate will average 8 percent. It forecasts modest growth of 2.6 percent next year ? down from the 3.0 percent it predicted in February ? before rising to 4.0 percent in 2014. Unemployment would remain above 7 percent through the end of 2014, registering at 7.3 percent, the report predicts.

"The economic recovery that began in 2009 will continue at a moderate rate and unemployment will gradually decline," Jeffrey Zients, the acting White House budget director said in a blog post. "The economy still faces significant headwinds," he added.

The 2012 budget year ends on Sept. 30. The White House also predicted that next year's deficit will fall just short of $1 trillion, higher than it predicted in its February budget release. The predicted deficit for 2012 actually improved by $116 billion, but some of that was because Congress didn't enact much of Obama's jobs plan.

But the White House promises deficits will drop to about 3 percent of the size of the economy by 2017, in part through $1.5 trillion in tax increases over the coming decade.

The White House report ? released Friday afternoon with the Olympics poised to distract voters for two weeks ? again trumpets Obama's longstanding approach to tackling the deficit. It includes tax increases on families earning above $250,000, already enacted "caps" on agency operating budgets and modest savings from federal benefit programs like Medicare and Medicaid.

"Since taking office, the president has worked to restore fiscal responsibility," says the OMB report.

Republicans scoffed, noting that Obama has violated his promise to wrestle the deficit in half by the end of his term.

"The president's string of broken promises on our nation's fiscal challenges weighs heavy on an anemic economy," said House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, R-Wis. "The president's commitment to ever-higher government spending and his failure to deliver on his economic promises have resulted in the fourth-straight budget deficit in excess of one trillion dollars."

Under Obama's budget plan, the total U.S. debt would reach $16.2 trillion by the end of the year and soar to $25.4 trillion at the end of a decade's time.

"America can have robust economic growth ? and avert a catastrophic debt crisis ? but it requires a credible fiscal plan and the leadership necessary to achieve it," said top Senate Budget Committee Republican, Jeff Sessions of Alabama.

The government is likely to reach its borrowing cap ? the subject of a fierce fight last summer between Obama and Republicans ? late this year or early next year, which is going to require the next Congress and either Romney or Obama to act together to increase the borrowing cap. That is seen by many as an opportunity to force lawmakers to finally tackle the country's major budget problems.

Also looming is the so-called fiscal cliff, a combination of big tax increases and deep, automatic budget cuts slated to begin in January unless Obama and congressional Republicans step in to block them this fall or during a postelection session of Congress. Many economists say that if the government plunges over the fiscal cliff it could drive the economy back into recession.

Romney, for his part, offers relatively few specifics on the budget but promises to bring total government spending down to 20 percent of the U.S. economy by the end of a first term in 2016. That is roughly in line with where it was during Republican George W. Bush's presidency. Government spending now equals 24 percent of gross domestic product.

PFT: Lewis says Bengals not mature enough to tweet

Randy MossAP

49ers receiver Randy Moss did a lot of talking on UStream after he decided to return to the NFL and before he found a team.? Since finding a team, he hasn?t done much talking.

On Friday at training camp, he did.

?These guys here love to work, they love to compete and they know just by me signing here it?s just something that me being around a great group of guys [who are] young and enthusiastic makes me feel young, too,? Moss said in comments broadcast on ESPN?s NFL Live.? ?The love that I have for the game of football is gonna always be in me and I just wanna play football and that?s just really being here and Coach Harbaugh and this organization accepting me and bringing me here was just something hopefully I can give something back in return and that?s with my play and my presence out on and off the field.?

Also on Friday, coach Jim Harbaugh continued with the gushing that has emanated from multiple members of the organization throughout the offseason.? ?The funnest part is out on the practice field,? Harbaugh said.? ?I get some joy being around Randy Moss out there.? He?s got a knack for saying the right thing at the right time.? The right joke at the right time.?

The joke ultimately may be on those who are ready to write off Randy?s chances of playing well in 2012.? After his comments were played during NFL Live and Herm Edwards said Moss could catch 10 touchdown passes this year, Adam Schefter and Bill Polian were skeptical, to say the least.

?Ten touchdowns is awfully high for a player who was out of football last year, who had a minimal impact the year before, who basically hasn?t made a contribution ? a meaningful contribution ? since 2009,? Schefter said.? ?There?s a spot for him in the San Francisco 49ers offense.? But we?re not getting the 25-year-old Randy Moss, we?re getting the 35-year-old Randy Moss.?

Polian was more blunt.

?The guy I saw two years ago, played against was not the Randy Moss who set records in New England,? Polian said.? ?I didn?t see any explosion, didn?t see any speed.? [Editor's note:? Darrelle Revis may disagree.]? So, he?ll have to make a believer out of me.? If he?s doing well by Week Eight then he?s back.? Otherwise, I have my doubts.?

It would be easy to agree, given the manner in which Moss disappeared in Tennessee after being essentially fired by two teams in less than a month.? But two factors could prove them wrong.

First, the praise of Moss from his teammates, both for his performance and his attitude, has been universal and unequivocal.? Everyone in San Fran loves the guy, and everyone who has seen him work since joining the 49ers believes he can still get it done.

Second, we?ve seen this movie before from Moss.? After his second year with the Raiders in 2006, the popular view was that Moss was washed up, that he was done, that he couldn?t run.

Rejuvenated by a trade to the Patriots, Moss ran down Jerry Rice?s record for single-season touchdown receptions, propelling the Pats to the first undefeated 16-game season.

When Randy?s head isn?t in it, it doesn?t matter what his body can do.? When Randy is ready to go, his team will get the best of whatever he has.

The point is that we shouldn?t assume anything about Randy?s physical abilities based on what we saw in 2010 because his performance was hampered by the fact that he didn?t care.

He cares now.

?I play when I wanna play.?? It arguably belongs on his tombstone.? For now, it should prompt anyone who thinks based on 2010 that he won?t have it in 2012 to think again.

'Fairy tale': Is Olympic neutrality really a myth?

Jim Seida / NBC News

Syrians gather in London's Trafalgar Square on Thursday to protest the Assad regime.

By Ian Johnston and Jim Seida, NBC News

LONDON -- As the Olympic torch made its way into London's famous Trafalgar Square, Ammar Masarani stood wrapped in the flag of the Syrian uprising against the murderous regime of President Bashar Assad among a crowd of about 50 other dissidents.

They had waited for almost two hours this moment to highlight the slaughter of more than 10,000 of their countrymen. As the torch went by, they waved their flags, but remained largely silent in order, Masarani said, "to stay within the rules."?

"Most people don't know what's going on in Syria with the Assad regime, so we are out here to raise awareness," Masarani told NBCNews.com.?"I'm from Homs, he [Assad] has destroyed most of my city.?He's destroyed most of the cities, Homs, Daraa, Hama. ?He destroyed them and now he's starting in Damascus and Aleppo."

The Olympic torch is set to makes its grand entrance at tonight's opening ceremony celebration after a 70-day journey and racking up about 8,000 miles throughout its tour. NBC's Michelle Kosinski reports.

Given the scale of the problems in Syria, Thursday night's?flag-waving demonstration might be a small gesture. However, it is the kind of protest that the Olympic organizers seek to avoid, insisting firmly that sports and politics should not mix and that the high ideals of "Olympism" must not be sullied by partisan campaigns.

More coverage of the Syria conflict

But experts who spoke to NBCNews.com accused the International Olympic Committee of picking and choosing what to regard as political while spinning the "fairy tale" of neutrality, suggesting it was time for the movement to acknowledge reality.

The present IOC's?badly handled refusal of the request for a minute's silence?for the victims of the Munich massacre at Friday's Opening Ceremony is perhaps case in point.?Since the 1972 Games, the Olympics has done little to formally commemorate the dead, and relatives and Israeli officials had hoped the 40th anniversary would provide an appropriate opportunity.

Instead, IOC President Jacques Rogge and several leading figures in the U.K. held a minute's silence in the Olympic Village on Monday at short notice and without publicizing what they were doing -- after?what Rogge described as a "spontaneous suggestion"?-- but that only seemed to add insult to injury.

Daniel Taub, Israel?s ambassador to the U.K., told NBCNews.com that the Munich massacre was "beyond politics." The Embassy was holding its own minute's silence Friday,?after a last-ditch plea to Rogge by the widows of two of the hostages fell on deaf ears.

"We?re talking about the darkest moment of Olympic history," Taub said.

Toby Melville / Reuters

Sebastian Coe (left), chairman of the London Olympic organising committee, and other officials mark a minute's silence at a ceremony in the Olympic Park in East London on Monday. President of the International Olympic Commission, Jacques Rogge paid tribute to the 11 Israeli team members who were killed at the 1972 Munich Games at a ceremony at the Athletes Village in London on Monday.

?An attack on the Olympic ideals of peace and harmony through friendship and solidarity really requires remembering publicly within the Olympic framework.?I would say that?s not politics, it?s humanity. The fear is that a failure to do that becomes political," he said.

?I would say in a very real way the people calling for a remembrance are really standing up for the true ideals of the Olympic Games, not trying to betray them," he added.

Taub said Israelis were puzzled that ?something that seems to be such a clear violation of Olympic ideals doesn?t seem to be deserving of commemoration.?

Ilana Romano, widow of Yossef Romano, an Olympic boxer killed in 1972, returned to Israel Thursday from England where she made a personal plea to the IOC to relent. She told NBCNews.com that she hoped spectators would stay silent and the media would turn off their microphones for a minute while Rogge speaks at the Opening Ceremony.

Jules Boykoff, a former U.S. soccer player and an associate professor in Pacific University?s department of politics and government, said the IOC should recognize they are involved in politics and consider setting up a committee or some other formal way of dealing with such issues.

Boykoff, who is in London researching a book about the Games,?said this would open "a kind of Pandora?s Box in terms of the issues they might have to deal with,? but scorned the claim that the Olympics is apolitical.

?The idea that sports and politics don?t mix is a fairy tale that the IOC tells itself to help it sleep better," he said. ?It?s obviously thrumming with politics at every level.?

He said an Olympic political commitee might get decisions wrong,?but at least people would know ?here?s where we [the IOC] are coming from."

More London 2012 coverage from NBCNews.com

There are suggestions that at least some political issues are decided in secret, for example when planning where to put different nations -- perhaps arch-rivals such as Israel and Iran -- in the Olympic Village. (On Monday, Iran announced that its athletes would compete against Israelis in London. The country faced criticism after some competitors withdrew from events against Israelis at the 2004 Athens Games and 2008 Beijing Games.)

"Politics is taken into account when choosing who goes where, but that's based on guidance at International Olympic Committee level, not by [organizers of] London 2012, and it's agreed by each country in advance -- they know who their neighbors are going to be," a senior official involved in operations told NBCNews.com.

"It's about making sure athletes are comfortable in their living space rather than which countries don't get on," the source said. "Even then, it's a not really an issue. You've got to remember that these guys compete alongside each other all the time and all over the world --they know each other, some of them are best man at the other's wedding and so on."?

However, London 2012 organizers LOCOG denied?international diplomacy played any role in the allocation of areas in the athletes' village, saying in an emailed statement?"political issues are not a factor."

From the "Sting-Ray" and the "Pringle" to the massive Olympic stadium that's described as an island, TODAY's Savannah Guthrie takes a look at the venues where more than 9 million spectators will catch a glimpse at the Games.

The Olympic movement does sometimes make open forays outside the world of sport.?The Olympic truce, for example, calls for fighting around the world to stop for the duration of the Games.

But, in case anyone was thinking this might offer hope for countries like Syria,?Boykoff was scathing.?This "really nice idea" was "sort of a farce," he said. "Battles are going to continue across the world, they are not going to stop for the games, as popular as it is."

Flag flaps
Apart from the flag of the Syrian opposition, other flags have been already been causing political controversy at London 2012.

The Games actually began Wednesday with several soccer matches, one involving the North Korean and Colombian women's teams.

North Korea came out to train in Glasgow's Hampden Park stadium, but then walked off the field and refused to return after the South Korean flag was mistakenly used by officials. The game eventually did take place about an hour later with the North Koreans winning 2-0.

On Friday, it emerged that Taiwan's flag had been removed from among a host of others on London's Regent Street over concerns that China would be offended. Taiwan, which China views as a breakaway province, uses the flag of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee at the Games, after the IOC ruled it could not use its own flag in the early 1980s.

Fortress London: UK protects Olympics with biggest security plan since WWII

And a marathon runner from new nation South Sudan, Guor Marial, will compete under the Olympic flag, after he understandably turned down the chance to run for Sudan -- which fought a decades-long civil war with the South that ended in the latter's independence. He was unable to run for his own country because it has not yet become a member of the Olympic movement.

But apart from Marial, everyone else will be competing for their country and Alan Bairner, professor of sport and social theory at the U.K.'s Loughborough University and author of a book, "The Politics of the Olympics," said the Opening Ceremony would be "replete with the politics of nationalism."

This runs contrary to the initial desire of the founder of the modern Olympics, Pierre de Coubertin, for athletes to compete as individuals rather than in state teams to avoid overly nationalistic sentiment.

A comment made by GOP candidate Mitt Romney during a Wednesday interview with NBC's Brian Williams led to some tension with UK Prime Minister David Cameron and the Mayor of London as well. NBC's Peter Alexander reports.

?They talk about the world coming together, but the world comes together with national flags and anthems," Bairner said. "Events at Hampden Park ? clearly demonstrated the significance of flags and emblems at supposedly apolitical events ?? particularly if the organizers don?t get it right."

Bairner said only flags of competing nations were allowed to be flown at Olympic events and questioned what would happen if the flag of Scotland ? part of the United Kingdom ? was flown or given to a successful Scottish athlete as they celebrate.

?Scotland has also been racked with concern over the entry of a Team Great Britain in the soccer event. Despite being one country, the U.K. has four international soccer teams -- England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland -- and other countries have questioned whether this is fair. The fear in Scotland particularly was that a Team GB would set a precedent that would lead to the demise of the Scottish national team.

Bairner, a Scot, said the idea was almost unthinkable. "I can't imagine life without Scottish teams in these competitions [the World Cup, European Championships etc]," he said. "For it just to become Team GB, I would lose interest and support Spain or Germany."

He suggested the loss of the Scottish soccer team would provide a "boost" for supporters of independence from the U.K. ahead of a referendum on the issue in 2014.

Millionaire medalists: Will London 2012 remain true to Olympic spirit?

Bairner said the IOC tended to pick and choose what they deemed to be political.

It was possible, he said, that the IOC thought a Munich commemoration at the Opening Ceremony would be viewed as ?pro-Israel.?

But he suggested it was ?just about remembering people who died at an Olympic Games,? and said he thought most people would be "comfortable" with the idea.

Bairner, who said his sympathies tended to be with the Palestinians, said it was difficult to see how anyone could ?object too strongly because they would almost be condoning that kind of activity,? and suggest that Olympic athletes were ?legitimate targets.?

British weather could impact Olympic records

The ad hoc approach to political issues has been going on for years.

A few months before the Beijing Games of 2008, Rogge declared firmly that it was a "sporting, not a political, association," as he dismissed the effect of the resignation of filmmaker Steven Spielberg as artistic consultant over China's support for Sudan amid the Darfur conflict.

And in 1936, Avery Brundage, then head of the American Olympic movement and later an IOC president, opposed a boycott of that year's Munich Games in Nazi Germany for the same reason.

The IOC?s decision to go ahead with the 1936 Munich Games -- awarded before the Nazis came to power partly to help shore up Germany's ailing democracy -- had handed Adolf Hitler a "huge propaganda victory,? Bairner said.

?You compare that with 1968 when [athletes] Tommie Smith and John Carlos do the Black Power salute. They are punished by the IOC for bringing politics into sport,"?he said, in perhaps an indication of what might happen to any Syria athletes trying to draw attention to the ongoing bloodshed in their country.

U.S. athletes Tommie Smith (center) and John Carlos (right) raise their gloved fists in the Black Power salute after receiving their Olympic medals on Oct. 17, 1968.

The treatment of Smith and Carlos likely gives an indication of what might happen to any Syrian athletes who attempt to use the Games to protest the killings in their country.

?It seems they [the IOC] decide what is political at any given time ? what they approve of and don't approve of. That?s when they become quite a slippery organization," Bairner said.

NBCNews.com submitted requests for comment from the IOC about the issues raised in this article on Wednesday and Thursday.

Media relations manager Sandrine Tonge said a response would be provided "as soon as we can."

Your Holistic Life - Live Well!: Losing Weight After Pregnancy ? Top ...

During your pregnancy your body has been changing shape dramatically over the past nine months. In most cases your body weight will have reached a higher level than ever before, you may have stretch marks, your pelvic floor muscles will be much weaker, you may notice more cellulite and varicose veins popping up here and there and you will certainly have increased your dress size by at least 2 or 3 sizes?

This is all natural and part of your body's attempts to cope with this major change and growth of your baby in your body. Your body has been equally as well designed to recover from such an event. It will readily strive to return to the fitness, health level and shape you were in before pregnancy.

If you weren't in the best shape before, don't worry because of the change in your hormones you can still get in to great shape now.

It isn't easy to find the time to return to exercise after pregnancy but find it you must. If you don't do the things I outline in this report you can say goodbye forever to that flat toned stomach.

It really is as important as that.?

Why physiotherapists and personal trainers aren't employed to work with every new mum is simply a matter of economics. I know one thing if you are conscious about your shape and appearance you are going to need help.

Whatever you do, don't visit your local gym and follow the advice of an under educated under trained instructor. Quite frankly if you've not done the research or got the experience you can't correctly instruct and design routines for postnatal women. Instead ask for the most qualified and experienced instructors, most gyms will have some good staff.

Alternatively book a couple of sessions with a qualified personal trainer there are many around these days. Check they hold a reputable qualification.

My golden Personal training motto is this - 'consistency'.?This is true in every area of health and fitness but never more so than in postnatal fitness. What I mean by this is commit yourself to a plan of action and stick to it religiously. Sure its fine to have the odd treat, that's good and yes there will be times when you are too tired or unwell to take exercise and I am not advocating no pain no gain this certainly is not appropriate at this stage.

You will make very rapid progress with relatively little effort if you follow the information in this 10-point postnatal report.

So what is the plan, what do you have to do? Following is listed in a nutshell the action you must take immediately?after having your baby, as long as you aren't experiencing any pain or discomfort by following the advice you should be fine and notice rapid changes.

Don't worry if you're reading this months if not years after giving birth as there are certain exercises you can do which will help you achieve that toned stomach, a good trainer should be able to guide you through this.

One thing I will say is this if you are reading this and hoping there is some magical solution to regaining your shape after child birth then you will be mistaken and very disappointed. To change your shape and appearance takes dedication, persistency and knowledge this is why personal trainers are so successful in sculpting and shaping the physiques of their clients.

Here's your 10 point postnatal report: -

1. Drink At Least 2 Liters Of Water Each And Every Day. Drinking this amount of water each day ensures that a number of things happen: -

?

2. Plan A Walking Route?- To get the most out of walking you should design a route around where you live which will take you between 20 and 30 minutes to complete, in surroundings you feel comfortable with. This route should be push chair friendly and performed at a comfortable pace for the first few days and then done progressively faster so that you feel warmer, breathing slightly heavier and your heart rate increases, you should still be capable of holding a conversation.

Your route should include some gentle gradients as these challenge the body to a greater degree than walking on the flat. Do this route at least five times a week. You will also have the benefit of getting some fresh air for you and your baby.

3. Reduce The Amount Of Food You Are Eating. Or more specifically the amount of calories you are consuming. During pregnancy there is a real need for extra calories because you need to maintain normal healthy function for yourself and you must provide extra calories for a growing baby.

After giving birth however there is not the same demand. That is not to say that you should dramatically cut the amount of food you eat instead this should be a gradual reduction over the course of 7 ? 10 days.

4. Don't Diet. Diets don't work, they mess with your mind and slow down your metabolism. The biggest mistake most people make when trying to lose weight is to simply try and starve themselves. This kind of strategy has a number of major downfalls.

The first main problem is that when you restrict calories in a drastic and uncontrolled manner in order to lose weight the body does shed a small amount of body fat, but not fat alone. Protein found in muscle tissue gets used to fuel daily activity and essential bodily fluids are also lost.

The minute you resume eating normally water levels will quickly be restored to normal and body weight will in turn stabilise once more. The muscle tissue lost will not return and this has a number of disastrous effects. The first one being that when a body consists mainly of trained dense muscles it becomes similar to a fat burning furnace in that it needs to keep the muscles well fed and the metabolism speeds up in order to do this.

Reducing muscle density through restrictive diets will only lead to a slowing down of the metabolism. Since most people tend to go through periods of weight loss and weight gain the next problem is that when you start gaining weight the weight you gain will be mainly body fat because muscle does not simply create itself it needs a reason to exist and this is where resistance training comes in.

5. Don't Do Sit Ups. During the first few weeks sit-ups and abdominal crunches are about the worst exercises to do.

Why? Well it's like this, during pregnancy your body produces a hormone called Relaxin. This hormone allows the body to become more flexible it allows greater movement in the spine, allows for more flexibility in the tendons and ligaments and gives the growing baby more room to grow.

Taking your stomach muscles as an example, the relaxin allows the growing baby to push through the muscles separating down either side.

This separation needs to realigned and doing sit-ups or crunches in effect will promote doming. Doming is a bulge in the abdominal wall caused by pressure pushing the tissue up underneath and through this gap. This actually hinders recovery and increases the separation between the stomach muscles. Correct breathing must be maintained at all times.

There is a test called the rec check, which will dictate when the stomach muscles have pulled in tight and are ready to perform other stomach exercises. An experienced trainer should know how to perform this test.

6. Be Careful. Your body is in a delicate state right now remember that Relaxin hormone, it will stay elevated for at least five months, longer if you breast feed for some time.

There are some exercises that are usually all right to do but for now you should avoid them. These are basically exercises that stretch the muscles under tension. The danger here is that the muscles will get stretched too far and tear.

7. This Is The Biggy. Not doing these exercises at this stage when your body is primed to recover and retighten presents missing a golden opportunity and usually leaves a woman with loose stomach muscles and a slightly rounded abdomen forever unless professional help and advice is followed.

Perform static stomach contractions and pelvic tilt exercises along with pelvic floor strengthening exercises. These are basically exercises where no movement occurs at the spine. As a rule do these whenever your baby sleeps, they only take a couple of minutes and are not physically demanding. That should mean doing these few exercises about four to five times a day.

Again some of the better gyms will be able to teach the correct exercises to do or look in the yellow pages for qualified personal trainers you should only need to be shown a couple of times.

8. Don't Rush. Being impatient and trying to do too much too soon will leave you feeling tired and susceptible to any bugs going. Your muscles will be weak and aerobic system poor and untrained and therefore both will have to be coaxed and nurtured back to full strength over a period of weeks not days.

9. Eat well and prosper. Now is the time to really eat well and make sure you are eating the right amount of nutrients and getting sufficient vitamins and minerals. Choose whole foods, fresh fruit and vegetables and allow yourself the odd comfort food.

Once or twice a week give yourself a treat, don't feel guilty about it, look forward to it and enjoy it. The occasional treat makes no difference whatsoever to your return to shape just as long as the majority of your diet is made up of good wholesome foods.

10. Sleep As Much As Possible. Easy for me to say hard for you to do. Try take naps during the day when your baby sleeps, change your priorities, let the house look a mess or a while, things will get easier as you get the hang of the situation.

A really good idea to use if you have someone to help you is every alternate night spend in the same room as your baby and on nights when you are not in the same room, sleep in another part of the house. This is going to mean relying on your partner or parent sleeping in the same room as your baby when you aren't there but it will ensure that every second night you will have an uninterrupted nights sleep.

This strategy will help to recharge your batteries and provide the energy to cope with what lies ahead of you each day.You will also expect to have a poor night on duty and this is therefore a good coping strategy to cope with the stress of lack of sleep. You will really look forward to your nights off.

Well that's it. I hope you have learned something from this guide. Just to summarize then: -

ConocoPhillips 2Q profit falls 33 pct

NEW YORK (AP) -- ConocoPhillips said Wednesday that net income fell 33 percent in the second quarter as it shed assets and sold oil and natural gas at lower prices.

Its results beat Wall Street estimates, but analysts said they're concerned that the company hasn't cut back on spending in response to the drop in revenues. Shares fell 2.6 percent Wednesday.

Chairman and CEO Ryan Lance said his company should spend about $16 billion this year on exploration, production and other projects. Lance, who took over ConocoPhillips from Jim Mulva in the second quarter, said it's important to keep investing in the future even though commodity prices have dropped.

"For this reason we do not think it is prudent to reduce our capital spending at this time," Lance said in a conference call.

The company said crude prices dropped by 6.5 percent while natural gas fell by 19.8 percent in the second quarter, when compared with the same period last year. Prices for other liquid hydrocarbons such as natural gas liquids and bitumen fell during the quarter as well.

Oil prices continue to fall on concerns that China's economy will slow down and Europe will fall back into recession.

"As oil prices go down, people are raising red flags about Conoco that they cannot keep spending like they are," Oppenheimer & Co. analyst Fadel Gheit said. "They either need to cut spending, sell assets or borrow money. None of the above is very pleasant."

ConocoPhillips already has been aggressively selling refineries, pipelines and other assets over the past few years to remake itself as an independent oil and gas producer. It has sold more than $20 billion in assets and investments since 2010, and the company plans to sell billions more this year.

The asset sales should generate more cash, but Gheit said it might be a lot less than expected. The value of oil and gas wells tends to rise and fall with commodity prices.

"If everyone knows they're selling, they may be forced to accept a price that's lower than they wanted," he said.

During the second quarter, overall production declined by 6 percent, in part because of ConocoPhillips's asset sales. A decline in the price of oil and gas trimmed sales even further.

As a result, the Houston company earned $2.27 billion, or $1.80 per share. That compared with $3.4 billion, or $2.41, a year earlier. Revenue fell 14 percent to $15.17 billion.

Excluding special items, ConocoPhillips earned $1.22. Analysts expected earnings of $1.20 per share on revenue of $9.06 billion, according to FactSet.

ConocoPhillips also spun off its downstream business, which includes refineries and pipelines, during the quarter. It made the split on April 30, and ConocoPhillips' second-quarter results include just one month of downstream earnings. The same period in 2011 includes a full three months of downstream results.

The downstream business is now called Phillips 66.

Shares fell by $1.40, or 2.6 percent, to close at $53.24 Wednesday.

CSN: Santo's legend will live at Cooperstown

ST. LOUIS ? Before Ron Santo and Billy Williams had their statues facing each other at Sheffield and Addison, they were side-by-side at Double-A ball.

This was San Antonio in 1959 and Williams remembered Rogers Hornsby, a roving Cubs instructor, going down the line after watching workouts near the end of the season.? ?

?He looked at some of the guys and said, ?Listen, you better go get a job because you can?t play this game of baseball,?? Williams recalled. ?He started to get to us and we didn?t know what he was going to say.

?He goes: ?William, you can hit in Chicago. You can hit right now in Wrigley Field and we want you to work on your defense. Santo, you?re a good defensive ballplayer and you?re going to hit some home runs. Both of you guys are going to be in the big leagues pretty soon.?? ?

Hornsby must have had a pretty good eye for talent, but there?s no way he could have known that both players would ultimately join him in the Hall of Fame.

As part of the ?Golden Era? committee, Williams lobbied for his old friend last December, and secured the spot in Cooperstown, almost exactly a year after Santo died from bladder cancer.

After years of frustration and disappointment, the induction takes place on Sunday in upstate New York, and there?s no doubt which hat Santo will have on his plaque.

?I don?t know if the world?s ever seen a guy with more passion and care and love for a franchise,? said former Cubs general manager Jim Hendry. ?Loved the players. Loved the fans. Loved the city. And gave his whole life ? through thick and thin, through good health and obviously horrible health the last decade ? to the organization.?

Santo wound up hitting 342 home runs, and winning five Gold Gloves at third base. He never ran with the sabermetrics crowd, but he did finish among the league leaders in walks nine times during his 15 years in the big leagues.

But numbers don?t tell the story of Santo, not even the more than $60 million he raised for juvenile diabetes research, because that doesn?t even begin to account for all the sick kids and amputees he quietly found time for across the country. ?

Traveling secretary Jimmy Bank is in his 20th season with the Cubs. Santo had two legs when Bank took the job, lost them both fighting diabetes and to the end pushed to make as many trips as possible.??? ?

?Heart of gold,? Bank said. ?Every hotel, everywhere we went, he stopped and signed autographs. I even asked him a couple times: ?Ronnie, don?t sign in the lobby, because then we?ve got security issues with the players.??

Santo would raise his voice: ?These are our fans! I?m gonna sign!?

In good times and bad times, Santo became such a huge part of the Cubs brand, as the voice on WGN Radio for 21 seasons. Hendry, Bank and TV play-by-play man Len Kasper all essentially said the same thing: I think about him all the time.

?When I got the job, he called and told me how excited he was for me,? Kasper said. ?He basically said: ?You?re a Cub now.? And that?s kind of how he viewed the world. Once I was a Cub in his mind, I was in.?

Santo didn?t need to memorize the game notes. Pat Hughes, a great straight man with such a smooth voice, was there for that.

Santo was the one connected in the manager?s office and the clubhouse. The players saw what he went through, hobbling to get on charter planes and refusing to complain during the brutal travel schedule.?? ?

?He was real, man. He was truly passionate about baseball and the Chicago Cubs,? outfielder Reed Johnson said. ?The players really bought into that, (and) that?s why he got so much respect, especially from guys in the clubhouse.?

Johnson remembered the call when the Cubs clinched the division in 2008: ?You could just hear him in the background on the radio going: ?Yeeeeesssss! Yeeeeesssss!??

On some level, even if you never met Santo, you still knew him if you just listened on the radio, and that connected generations of Cubs fans.

?He was as himself on the air as he was off the air,? Kasper said. ?That is what I think most broadcasters strive to be, but we all hold something back, under the guise of professionalism or whatever.

?But I think in a pure sense of what people want ? especially Cub fans and people in the Midwest ? they want you to be genuine. They want you to be unvarnished and unfiltered and Ron brought that every single day.

?If there was a player he had never heard of, he would tell everybody on the air, and there was something very charming about that.?

Bank had lunch with some friends on Saturday in St. Louis and they started telling Santo stories. It doesn?t really matter what?s going on in Cooperstown. As Bank said: ?There are things in every city that remind me of him.?

After Santo died in 2010, Bank got phone calls from bus drivers in a few cities, including the one the Cubs have had for years in St. Louis.

?They used to hear us on the buses laughing and having fun and talking,? Bank said. ?They called me (to say) we?re really gonna miss (you guys) on the buses.? ?

That was the kind of magnetism at the core of Santo?s personality. Friends, strangers, it didn?t really matter. They gathered to watch him play with maximum effort and listen to him moan and groan and cheer on the radio.

That?s why so many will be there in Cooperstown, as the Hall of Fame recognizes what the Cubs already knew a long time ago.

Business And The Computer Virus

While computers have allowed businesses to operate far more efficiently than they did in the past and have allowed productivity to be streamlined, there are some negatives that come along with depending on computers and/or a network for business. Perhaps the biggest issues of all stems from Malware, spyware, and viruses.

Businesses should never take any of the aforementioned threats lightly. In doing so they open themselves, their network, and even their employees to a number of different issues that can cost a company time, money, morale, and of course clients. There's also the issue of liability should a businesses computers or network pass on something that causes another company or individual computer problems.

While there are many free programs that work well for individual computer users at home, businesses must be more stringent in their efforts to stop infections from ever being allowed into their networks. Fortunately advancing technologies have made antivirus software extremely affordable to even the largest and smallest of businesses.

Perhaps best of all however is the automation that comes along with many modern antivirus programs. Businesses can now hire an outside computer firm to not only install specialized software on their network that stops these infections at the door but it also sees the same firms monitoring their networks for infections from offsite locations. This means that business networks can be watched constantly for problems meaning there will be far fewer to deal with if any need to be dealt with at all.

Should you be a business owner or manager interested in an affordable yet modern antivirus software/program be sure to contact us and that we may be of assistance.

Wiggins secured his win with a dominating performance in Saturday's final time trial to extend his already commanding lead. Fellow Briton and Sky teammate Christopher Froome finished second, 3 minutes, 21 seconds behind overall. Vincenzo Nibali of Italy finished third, 6:19 off the pace.

The last time two riders from the same nation finished first and second in the?Tour?was in 1984, when Frenchman Laurent Fignon defeated Bernard Hinault.

Cavendish claimed his 23rd?Tour?stage win and third this year. He also became the first reigning world champion to win on the Champs-Elysees.

As expected, Wiggins repaid Cavendish for his efforts earlier in the race and led the Sky train in the final kilometer of the 120-kilometer stage before leaving his place to Edvald Boasson Hagen, who delivered a perfect lead-out for Cavendish.

Cavendish accelerated coming out of the final corner, never looked back and raised four fingers as he crossed the line.

The seven stage wins was a record haul for British riders in the?Tour, beating the previous record of six stage wins in 2009 ? when all were won by Cavendish.

This time the victories were divided up between Cavendish (3), Wiggins (2), David Millar (1) and Froome (1).

Wiggins and his teammates were at the font of the pack as it arrived on the streets of Paris for eight laps of a 6.5-kilometer circuit on the Champs-Elysees.

Veteran rider George Hincapie, competing in his 17th consecutive and final?Tour, led the peloton onto the prestigious avenue alongside fellow American Chris Horner.

With Sky determined to help Cavendish secure a fourth consecutive win in Paris, Horner and Hincapie were immediately reined in. Several other riders tried to break away but the peloton was not ready to give them any slack as the race passed some of the capital's most iconic monuments such as the Louvre museum, the Eiffel tower and the Place?de?la Concorde.

Six riders including Jens Voigt of Germany finally escaped from the back with 30 kilometers to go. They had a maximum lead of 30 seconds but were progressively reeled in as Liquigas and Sky organized the chase.

Warner Bros. cancels more world Batman premieres

(AP) ? Warner Bros. Pictures says it has canceled appearances by the cast and filmmakers of the movie "The Dark Knight Rises" in Mexico and Japan after a shooter killed 12 people and injured at least 50 Friday in a Colorado theater during a midnight premiere of the newest Batman movie.

The studio says actors Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway and Joseph Gordon Levitt will no longer hold press or red carpet events on Monday at Mexico City's National Auditorium.

Premiere events in Paris were also canceled Friday.

The studio said it would continue with screenings for special guests and promotion winners so as not to disappoint fans.

In Finland, public broadcaster YLE television said movie distributor FS-Film's entire Internet campaign for "The Dark Knight Rises" has temporarily been shut down and that TV spots have been withdrawn. It was not clear Saturday how long the suspension would last, but it may only be this weekend. The film opened Friday in Finland, according to movie database IMDb.
